Content Warning: Strong Language

It seems that some white supremacist agent has been removing some celebrities’ brains and replacing them with hot air…

When Nicki Minaj took to twitter in July to talk about the way MTV’s Video Music Awards, as a part of the broader mainstream music industry, glorified pale and petite artists with nominations and excluded the beautiful big booty black women Minaj and other artists of color have personally chosen to put on their proper pedestal and reverence. When it comes to skin and shape, it’s no news that mainstream media chooses to stay true to the hierarchical  standards of “white is right” and cellulite + fat free females who stroke the white male’s ego. While these artists tend to cater to the outward fantasies of this type of man, we know better. For as far back as time could tell, the flesh of African women and female-bodied people of the African Diaspora has been fetishized by western culture. Thanks to the abuse of Photoshop prevalent in today’s media, it’s easier for the people of pop culture to embody the beloved features of black women without the essential part: being black. Don’t believe it? Google it.

This trifling shit is what Nicki Minaj is speaking to, tweeting about, living. To have the hottest, most talked about, watched, and envied video of the year, Nicki is truly humbled to point out the broader music industry and media’s anti-Blackness and body policing that she happens to be affected by. Even the famed wax statue of Nicki inspired by her Anaconda video has a Caucasian looking face, nothing like her own. The true egotists are Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, with the little side action from Katy Perry who honestly only got involved out of petty salt.

After all the shade blindly thrown by Taylor Swift failed to cover Nicki, thanks to the enlightenment provided by the ever-faithful Barbs on the prevalence of anti-Blackness, Miley Cyrus popped up out of nowhere, uninvited and unappreciated with her two cents that even the homeless youth she advocates for wouldn’t want.

In our conscious opinion, Miley doesn’t deserve our patience or our cleverly crafted conviction. Ignorance is bliss for some, but the worst ignants to deal with are the ones who appropriate POC cultures and think themselves more knowledgeable than those of us in the struggle about our own oppression. PLUS, you don’t ever tell a black woman she too angry. Girl, bye.

UPDATE: Oop! Nicki got right on that, yes…

And Miley wasn’t ready!
